Oxytocin is most commonly known as the hormone of love. Did you know that it’s also a neurotransmitter that enables the flow of information within your brain? It is released in massive amounts during physiological birth to help in the birthing process.

It’s also produced by our body when we make love. It’s released when we hug. When we feel connected. There are many benefits to the release, production and even sharing of oxytocin in our lives when we are relating to another person.

However, those benefits are also there when we are being kind to ourselves and when we are getting ready for birth.

Oxytocin is the feel-good hormone.

It feels fantastic when it’s released into the body. The wonderful thing about it is that we can release and promote the production of oxytocin ourselves!
Here’s a little exercise you can do right now.

I invite you to take a few big, deep breaths and drop into your belly. Right now. Wherever you are. Now gently put a little bit of pressure on your skin. You can do this on your arms or even your legs. Keep it light and comfortable.

Next, place one hand on your chest and the other on your belly. Apply a little bit of pressure there. Not too much. Again, you want to keep it comfortable.

You might like to gently massage your facial muscles along with some breath, deep into your belly.

It might seem a little weird. But it’s OK. I really appreciate you trusting me and doing this along with me. Keep going for a few minutes. Gently squeezing, loving and giving to yourself.

How does that feel?

Do you have that feel-good sensation?

You can keep going for as long as you like and it feels good. Put on some music and enjoy. Give yourself a gift. Even if it’s just 10 minutes. Remember, it’s never too late to create  imprints that serve you.
